2 PETER 2:1-19: FALSE TEACHERS

}  False teachers are recognized in many ways. Here are a few examples of characteristic that they have. They Promise liberty, but offer bondage. They teach covetous and the ways of the world. They have eyes full of vanity. They despise governments, speak evil of leadership. They also try to convince you to follow their pernicious ways. Lastly False teachers deny the teachings of the lord.

I learned a lot in 2 Peter 2 about False teachers and how to recognize them. There are so many things and people in this world that are trying to deceive us. The scriptures, the prophets and church leaders are here for us to be warned so that we won’t be deceived. When we are able to recognize the things we will be less likely to fall and be deceived.

}  2 Peter 2:20-22 Pollutions of the World

“For it had been better for them not to have know the way of righteousness”

 Those that escape the pollutions of the world and come to the gospel only to fall back into their old ways have a hard time ever coming back. Once you have already been apart of the gospel, then leave it, they are worse off than before they had ever learned of the gospel. One example of this is in the early history of the church. Those that fell away where the ones that were the leaders of the mobs that ended up killing church members and Joseph Smith.

}  “Where much is given, much is required and he who sins against the greater light shall receive greater condemnation”. D&C 82:3,7

}  As members of the church we have a great responsibility to keep the commandments and to be there for those new members to keep them faithful and steady in the church.

Choice 4: The Trial of Our Faith is More Precious than Gold.

Life isn’t fair, Why do I have to have so many trials?

In Peter chapter one verse seven he tells us that the trial of our faith is much more precious than gold. When we overcome our trials that we are given we show our love for the savior. I know that I become a better person from the different trials that I have been blessed with. At the time trials seem unfair but I know that the lord will not give us any trials we won’t be able to overcome. We should be thankful for this life and for everything that we are given. We always will be in debt to our Father in Heaven. This life is fair because of the Atonement in our life.

Choice #3: Works of Righteousness

1. How should we treat strangers and those "in bonds"?

We are asked to serve and show love to them. We are to show compassion and not to forget them. Also we are to be hospitable towards them.

2. How is marriage looked upon?

It is Honorable and approved by god. He will not allow adultery.

3. What warnings are given about covetousness?

We should always be content with what we have. We should be willing to give to the lord.

4. What is "the same yesterday, today and forever?"

5. How do we respond to those who rule over us?

Obey them and submit yourself to them

6. Who did Paul ask the people to pray for?

He asked the people to pray for the church leaders and for himself.

Jesus Christ #5

Jesus Christ is superior to many things. He is superior to angels who are servants. He is superior to Moses who was also a faithful servant but Jesus Christ is the son of god. He is also superior to high priests. He is greater than all.

In Hebrews 1 there are three truths that Paul taught about the savior Jesus Christ. The first truth is the Jesus Christ is heir of all things. Also that he is the son of god and is in his image. All angels worship him.

In Hebrews 2:7-18; 4:13-16; Alma 7:11-15; and Doctrine and Covenants 122:8 there are many reasons described that the son of god came to earth to experience mortality.

He came to the earth to experience mortality so that he could feel our pains and trials and suffer for our sins.

-He came to this earth to be tempted like we are. He was tempted many times and never sinned.

-He came to mortality so that he could descend below all things.

-He came so that he should take upon him our pains and sicknesses.

-To take our infirmities

-To loosen the bonds of death

-To take upon him our sins and blot out our transgressions.

Choice #1 Solution to Life’s Challenges

People sometimes argue and complain over petty issue in church meetings and outside of church throughout the week. I feel like this is easier said to avoid than it really is. We need to realize that the lord has called different people to callings for a reason and we sustained them. Thinking that we could do it better or complaining is not sustaining them. We need to serve them and love them for who they are and the efforts that they are making. When we argue or complain, we are being prideful and need to give selfless service. Through service I have found we gain a love for people I feel I normally wouldn’t get along with or be friends with.

Some youth in the church struggle and fall by the way side or some use the testimony of their parents which will only carry them so far and there comes to a point when we all need to gain a testimony for ourselves. I have always grown up in states where I was one of the few members and sometimes the only one in my high school that is a member. It is challenging but I think that it tests your testimony every day. You have to be an example at all times because you are always being watched.

Our Heavenly Father will give us strength if we ask. We must remember to put God first. He is the one who has blessed us so much for the opportunity to become like Him and to experience such happiness.

I know that our Heavenly Father will help those who struggle to chose the right by joining the church and doing what’s right. In Philippians 4:13 it reads “I can do all things through Christ which strengthened me.” I know that if you ask for his help that he will bless you and give you the strength that you need.

This assignment has strengthened my testimony of the Savoir and how he can help me in my life. I know that if we turn to Christ and put our faith in him, he can help us through all our tough times and answer our questions. By prayer, fasting and the scriptures we can find our answers.

Choice 3                                                                                                                                                    

1. Paul used many different names, titles, and phrases in Colossians 1:13-2:7 to describe the Savior. Some of these names are: Son, Firstborn of every creature, head of the body, first born from the dead, Christ, Jesus, Lord, Creator and Head of Church. Paul taught that Jesus Christ has done many things for us. Our Savior delivered us from darkness; he redeemed us from death by making it possible that we all will be resurrected. He created this earth and everything on it. He created this Church and he suffered and died for us, and on the third day he rose again from the grave. There are many things that we need to do to receive blessings of the lord.

2. To me being “rooted and built up in him, and established in the faith” is to have a testimony of Christ and the Atonement. If you are deeply rooted than you are unshakable. How can I make my testimony deeply rooted in the gospel? A few ways that I can improve is by studying our scriptures, and by praying to our heavenly father. I feel like by sharing my testimony my testimony is strengthened. Through tests and trials we learn from our mistakes and our testimony grows.

-We need to continue our faith in Christ, Jesus.

-We need to warn and share the gospel with our fellow brothers and sisters of Christ’s life, death, and resurrection.

-We need to be united and seek for knowledge and truth.

-We need to be thankful for what our Heavenly Father has done for us and what our Savior has done. 

Means of Deception

1.      Beware lest an man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit

2.      Let no man beguile you of your reward in a voluntary humility and worshipping of angels.

3.      Beware of worldliness

4.      Beware of the wicked traditions of men

In 2 Nephi 9:28-29 the principle is to Beware of Pride. From this scripture mastery we know that we need to rely on the spirit and not on our own knowledge and understanding.

By following Paul’s council our family’s will be much happier. I think that it is very important to have Family Home Evening. Learning and teaching our children to love and live the Gospel. I always loved singing songs and hymns together as a family, I know that through music the spirit is brought into your home. Children should be obedient to their parents. Parents should love and teach their children to work and live the gospel.

Romans 6:1-13

What must be done with sin before baptism can occur?                                                      Body of sin must be destroyed before baptism can occur.

What events from Christ's life are symbolized in baptism?

Christ physically died to represent the death of sin that must occur. He raised from the dead having power over death and sin. He prepared a way that we can all overcome death and sin.

Considering the symbolism, why couldn’t someone be baptized by sprinkling

Baptism by immersion is symbolic of burying the sin or the death of sin. After being fully immersed, they are brought forth out of the water symbolizing a new birth.

What do these verses teach us about how we can maintain the newness of life?

These verses teach us how we can maintain the newness of life by yielding yourselves unto God, let not sin reign in your mortal bodies.

What part of us would ideally die at baptism?

The natural man.

Romans 6:14-23

Who’s servants are we?

The natural man is the servant of sin. When we are freed from sin, we become servants of righteousness. We want to be a servent of rightousness at all times. When we are following the commandments we are a servent of righteousness.

True sources of freedom

True freedom is found in righteousness and obeying the commandments. If we do this we will be happy and will have our freedom. Through the atonement we can free ourselves from sin.
